Billo vs Collabstr: Which Should You Pick?

billo.app · collabstr.comPrices verified Sep 2026

Researched by Gan Liu · Founder & lead researcher

Our verdict

Pick Collabstr to start from zero: it's free to browse, creators list transparent rates (average collaboration $154, 80% under $300), and escrow holds your money until delivery — no ~$500 credit pack required. Pick Billo when you want a managed pipeline instead of picking creators yourself: brief-based matching, 2 included revisions, and automatic full usage rights on approval versus Collabstr's per-creator rights negotiation in chat. Both hold strong Trustpilot scores (Billo 4.1/5 on 519 reviews, Collabstr 4.5/5 on 457), so it comes down to workflow preference and commitment level.

The headline choice reads as managed pipeline versus open marketplace, but the real decision is how you want to hold risk. Billo asks you to prepay a pool of credits and trusts the platform to run production. Collabstr asks nothing up front and hands you the roster, the chase, and the fine print. The sticker prices — Billo's widely quoted $99 per video, Collabstr's average collaboration of $154 — hide most of what actually separates them.

The pricing math diverges more than the stickers

Billo does not publish a rate card. billo.app/pricing 301-redirects to a login, and the $99 figure everyone repeats traces to a Capterra listing, not to Billo itself. You buy access through prepaid packs that start near $500, and every pack expires twelve months after purchase (Brand Terms §5.2). That clock is the hidden cost. Fund a $5,000 pack, spend $3,000, and let the remaining $2,000 lapse, and your 30 videos cost $167 each rather than $99 — a 69% markup paid to no one. Billo's help center says you could have refunded the unused balance minus a 25% fee, bringing the same 30 videos to about $117 each; its Brand Terms read strictly say the balance is stranded. The two documents disagree, so confirm the refund route in a support ticket before funding anything large.

Collabstr is the opposite shape: free to browse, listed rates you can read before you spend, a $50 minimum order, and no expiry on anything. Its advertised 10% buyer fee is only half the story. Creators pay a separate 15% on their payout, so a $150 listing costs the brand $165 while the creator nets $127.50 — Collabstr keeps $37.50, roughly a 25% combined take. Nothing prepays and nothing lapses, which is genuinely cheaper for lumpy or one-off buying.

Grossed up to a usable asset — after product samples, shipping, internal labor, and the deliveries you can't actually run — Billo lands around $188 to $268 per usable video and Collabstr around $461. Part of that gap is method: Collabstr's model adds a per-order usage-rights upgrade (Collabstr publishes no price for it) that Billo bundles for free.

The trade: pipeline vs marketplace

Billo is a managed pipeline. You write a brief, the platform matches vetted creators from a 5,000-strong pool across four English-speaking markets, and delivery runs 7-12 days after the creator receives your product. You don't pick anyone; you approve output. Collabstr is a marketplace. You browse profiles, hire directly, and escrow holds your money until you approve — but you do the vetting, the chasing, and there is no platform SLA on turnaround. One sells you a process; the other sells you access and leaves the process to you.

Rights: Billo assigns them, Collabstr does not

Rights are where Billo wins cleanly. §8.1 assigns you worldwide IP for the full term of the copyright, automatically on approval, with no usage-rights upsell and the watermark removed on download. Collabstr's default is the trap most competing reviews skip: unless usage rights are written into the order, you receive a license to review the file and nothing else (ToS §11). The rights are cheap to add and costly to forget. Both platforms bar using the footage to train AI models without written consent.

On revisions the shapes invert. Billo includes exactly two edits per video and excludes anything it reads as a "material change" (§4.6). Collabstr allows unlimited revisions inside the original brief but treats out-of-scope requests as a new paid order. On both, a vague brief is what converts a quality problem into extra spend, so the brief is the load-bearing document either way.

Escrow and recourse favor different buyers. Collabstr's escrow holds payment until you approve, but you have only a 72-hour review window before the order auto-approves and your refund right lapses, and disputes are decided by Collabstr at its own discretion with liability capped at the greater of six months of fees or $500. Billo has no escrow; your agreement is with the creator directly (§10.3), and disputes go to the courts of Lithuania — ordinary for a Vilnius company, impractical on a four-figure order.

Billo for a managed pipeline, Collabstr for a first test

Choose Billo if you ship physical product, order at least five to ten videos a quarter, want permanent rights with zero licensing admin, and would rather approve work than manage it. Choose Collabstr if you're running a first test, buying one or two videos, want to pick the creator yourself, and keep monthly creator spend under roughly $6,600 — above which Collabstr's Premium tier starts cutting the fee enough to matter. If the eighteen-month exclusivity clause is what stops you, see what else browse-and-hire looks like.

A short decision framework

  • One or two videos, no commitment → Collabstr.
  • Steady quarterly volume, physical product → Billo.
  • Need bulletproof usage rights with no negotiation → Billo.
  • Want to vet and choose creators yourself → Collabstr.
  • Cash flow can't absorb a stranded prepaid balance → Collabstr.
  • Want the platform to run production end to end → Billo.

Neither is a bad tool; they solve different halves of the same job. Billo removes work and adds financial risk. Collabstr removes the risk and hands the work back to you.

Quick facts about Billo

Starting price
$99/video(funded via credit packs starting around $500)
Minimum spend
~$500 initial credit pack per G2 pricing data (single videos from $99 within that balance)

Usage rights
Full licensing and ownership rights transfer to the brand automatically on video approval. Brand Terms §8.1 assigns the creator’s rights to the brand worldwide for the full duration, with rights to edit, modify, distribute and create derivative works "without restriction", and no extra usage-rights fee. There is no brand-side AI-training restriction. The carve-outs run the other way: §8.4 requires the brand to grant Billo a "perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, paid up, worldwide license" over the deliverables for operating and promoting the platform (including internal training and marketing), and Annex B §4.4 lets Billo use CreativeOps usage data to "maintain, test, and improve its algorithms and AI models".
