Number 1: Synthesia
synthesia.io · AI UGC Video Tools
Enterprise AI video platform that turns text scripts into avatar-presented videos
Looking for a HeyGen alternative? These 8 UGC platforms cover similar use cases — compared on verified pricing, real user ratings, and what each is best for.
Read the full HeyGen reviewAlmost nobody looking for a HeyGen alternative is unhappy with the avatars. HeyGen holds 4.8 on G2 across roughly 1,900 reviews, and realism is what reviewers praise. What pushes buyers out is the meter and the medium. Every feature bills one credit pool, and HeyGen's help center states that if you cancel and downgrade to Free, "any remaining unused credits will expire" — pausing destroys the balance too. Its Terms restrict free-plan output to "personal, non-commercial, and internal evaluation purposes," so the free tier is not licensed for the ads you would test on it. Its Trustpilot profile is a barbell — 3.7 across 3,088 reviews, 18% one-star — and the bottom bar is billing, not video quality. The second reason is simpler: HeyGen makes an avatar, and no prompt puts a real person's hands on your product.
This page is built from published pricing pages, help-center articles, and terms, not paid placement. We do not sell rankings, take no commissions, and have not run campaigns on these tools. Where a rate card is hidden we say so. Our platform record dated 2026-09-02 carries Creator at $24/mo billed annually; our longform review dated 2026-09-03 could not re-confirm it, because that rate sits behind a client-side toggle. The provable number is $29/mo for 600 credits.
They split two ways: other AI avatar studios, and real-creator marketplaces.
| Platform | Starting price | What's different from HeyGen | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Synthesia | $18/mo annual ($29 monthly) | Headlines minutes, not credits; SCORM export | Corporate training and L&D |
| Creatify | $39/mo (100 credits) | Product URL in, 50 ad variations out | Testing paid-social creative |
| Captions (Mirage) | $24.99/mo (500 credits) | UGC-native actors, not presenter avatars | Ads that must read handheld |
| Arcads | $110/mo (10 videos) | 1,000+ ad actors; no trial, no public pricing | Near-minute hook testing |
| Vidnoz AI | $14.99/mo | 60 free credits a day, watermarked 720p | Occasional video, tiny budget |
| TopView | $16/mo annual ($29 monthly) | Bundles Seedance, Wan, MiniMax in one plan | Cheapest per clip, if you can queue |
| Hedra | $15/mo (1,500 credits) | ~28 models; commercial rights on every paid tier | Characters from one portrait |
| Zeely | $29.95/mo (2,500 credits) | Builds the ad and launches the campaign, on mobile | Solo sellers who also want placement |
| Shhots AI | $19/mo (2,000 credits) | Promptless — a product photo is the whole input | Cheap photo-to-ad creatives |
| ReelFarm | $49/mo (100 posts) | Generates and auto-publishes faceless TikToks | TikTok-only automation |
| MakeUGC | $59/mo ($1 first month) | Product-in-hand output, batch mode, API tier | Volume testing, with caveats below |
| soona UGC | $89/video | Real creators; perpetual worldwide rights | One human video, no subscription |
| JoinBrands | $25/video + 15% fee | Published rate card; Spark Codes included | Amazon and TikTok Shop sellers |
| Collabstr | Free to browse; listed rate + 10% fee | Creator rates you read before paying | Comparing creator prices |
| Billo | $99/video, packs from ~$500 | Managed creator pipeline; rights on approval | Steady volume, physical product |
Synthesia is the closest like-for-like swap and the better buy for training video. Starter is $18/mo billed annually ($29 month-to-month) for roughly 120 minutes a year; Creator is $64/mo annual ($89 monthly). It covers 140+ languages to HeyGen's 175+, headlines minutes even though credits meter underneath, and ships the SCORM export HeyGen's Business tier does not list. The trade is moderation: every video is screened, and reviewers report ordinary business content blocked or delayed 12 to 24 hours — including one who had paid $11,000 for a custom avatar of themselves. Unused credits expire at cycle end with no rollover. Switch for L&D, not to escape a credit meter.
If HeyGen's avatars read too corporate in a Meta feed, these two are the fix. Creatify starts at $39/mo for 100 credits, takes a product URL instead of a script, batches up to 50 variations, and holds 4.8 on G2 across 1,702 reviews. Its own help center says credit use for the Agent, Ad Flow, and Ad Clone tools "is variable and cannot be determined upfront," and unused credits never roll over. Captions runs the proprietary Mirage model, generating UGC-native actors rather than lip-synced avatars, and holds the best Trustpilot score of any AI tool here, 4.4 across 410 reviews. Its own documents disagree: the pricing page lists Max at $24.99/mo, help docs $29.99, and a $9.99 Basic tier appears in help docs only.
Vidnoz's free tier refills daily at 60 credits, watermarked 720p, against a 2.1 Trustpilot score across 82 reviews driven by billing complaints. TopView's "unlimited" plans are queue-throttled, with reviewers reporting 6 to 68 hour waits. Hedra includes commercial rights on every paid tier and sits at 1.6 on Trustpilot across 57 reviews, 81% one-star. MakeUGC's $1 first month renews at $59, and its Trustpilot score is suppressed for a guideline breach — the 2.8 in our record comes from the star distribution, not a displayed score. Shhots AI includes a commercial license at $19/mo but has no third-party reviews at all.
For many HeyGen searchers the answer is not another avatar. Four marketplaces sell what one cannot.
soona UGC — the platform soona built after acquiring Trend.io — is pay-per-video from $89 with unlimited perpetual worldwide rights included, delivered about seven days after the creator receives your product. JoinBrands advertises "$25+" per video plus an 8–15% platform fee, though its own help center sets a $50 floor and pre-fills the builder at $60; rights and TikTok Spark Codes cost nothing extra. Collabstr is free to browse and adds 10% to the creator's listed rate, but its terms give you only a license to review the file unless usage rights are written into the order, and creators pay a separate 15% on top. Billo publishes no rate card at all — the repeated $99 per video traces to third-party listings, and funding runs through prepaid packs from around $500.
At Creator's published credit rates a shipped HeyGen clip costs well under a dollar in platform spend, against soona's $89 to $259 per human video. You are buying authenticity, not minutes.
Synthesia, Creatify, Captions, Hedra, Vidnoz, and TopView all charge a monthly fee with credits underneath, so switching between them solves a feature problem, never a metering one. Only the marketplaces change the model.
Stay on HeyGen if you reliably spend 600 credits a month, need 175+ language translation, or want a vendor that publishes a per-feature credit rate card and a refund window. Most of this list publishes neither, and Arcads, TopView, Zeely, ReelFarm, and Captions publish no clear usage-rights terms at all. Localization is the strongest reason to stay: at 4 to 10 credits per minute, translating one video into a dozen markets costs less than filming one of them.
Leave if your production is seasonal, because credits die on cancellation and on pause. Leave if legal will not sign an irrevocable, sublicensable license to train models on your content. Leave outright if you run political campaigns — political content is non-permissible under HeyGen's moderation policy, and enforcement includes suspension. And leave the category, not just the vendor, if your ad needs a real person holding a real product.
