What Is a UGC Creator? The Job, the Rates, the Platforms

A UGC creator is paid for licensed footage, not for an audience. What the job delivers, what platforms pay per video, and which ones take applications.

A UGC creator is a paid content producer who films authentic-looking video for a brand to run in the brand's own ads, product pages, and emails. They are hired for the footage and the license attached to it, not for access to the audience on their own account, and that one distinction sets the rates, the contracts, and the shape of the whole job.

Every number below traces to a platform's own pricing page, terms of service, or help center. We read published documents rather than buying videos, and each figure sits in our directory with the date it was last checked.

What a UGC creator is contracted to deliver

Two things, and most explanations skip the second one.

The asset. Usually a vertical video between 15 and 60 seconds, filmed on a phone, in an unboxing, testimonial, demo, or how-to format. Runtime is a priced variable rather than an afterthought. Clip charges $124 for 15-20 seconds, $159 for 20-40, and $199 for 40-60. Speekly prices edited videos at €129, €149, and €169 for 15, 30, and 60 seconds, and sells unedited raw footage separately from €49. Twirl bundles raw plus final edit in two aspect ratios into its per-video price.

The license. This is what makes it a job rather than a hobby, and platforms handle it very differently. Billo's Brand Terms §8.1 assign the creator's rights to the brand worldwide on approval, with no separate rights fee. JoinBrands ToS §3.4.1 transfers all rights on full payment and states plainly that the brand receives no right to use the content before payment. Insense grants a perpetual license, but one limited to digital and connected-TV channels; broadcast, print, and out-of-home are not named anywhere in its terms. Collabstr is the outlier: unless usage rights are written into the individual order, ToS §11 leaves the brand with a license to review the file and nothing more.

Revision rounds are the third contracted item, and they are finite. Billo includes two per video. JoinBrands includes one on pay-as-you-go, rising to ten on the $499/month Max plan. Clip and Speekly each include one.

UGC creator vs influencer

The line blurs in exactly one place: creator-handle advertising. Insense builds Meta Partnership Ads and TikTok Spark Ads connections into every plan, JoinBrands includes Spark Codes and Instagram Partnership Ad codes in the content price at no extra charge, and Billo sells organic posting and partnership ads as add-ons. In those campaigns the brand is buying the footage and a slice of the creator's handle.

Influencer platforms gate on audience in ways UGC platforms do not. Skeepers vets applicants against minimums including 1,000 followers and 2% engagement, and its campaigns are gifting-based — creators receive product instead of a cash fee. If you have no following and want to be paid in money, that is the wrong door.

What the work actually pays

Brand-side sticker prices and creator payouts are two different numbers. The gap between them is the platform's cut.

Published brand-side pricing across the marketplaces we track:

PlatformBrand paysNotes
JoinBrandsVideos from $25, images from $10Brand sets the fee; typically $25-60 per video
soona UGC$89-$259 per videoPrice varies by creator tier
BilloFrom $99 per videoThird-party reports put real spend at $150-$250
Clip$124-$199 per videoBy runtime; rights and one edit included
CollabstrThe creator's listed rateAverage collaboration around $154; roughly 80% under $300
TwirlFrom $325 per videoFour-video minimum on a first order
YoudjiNegotiated per orderSite examples: ~$350 per video, $50 raw footage

What reaches the creator is lower. Influee publishes creator rates of roughly $26 to $70+ per 30-second video and cites about $58 as the average for a US 30-second video, with a 10% marketplace fee added on top of every creator payment. Stack Influence averages roughly $30 per creator post and pays in product reimbursement rather than a cash fee.

The cut itself is worth reading before anyone picks a home platform:

PlatformThe cutWho pays it
Youdji20% of creator earnings; 0% and $0/mo for brandsCreator
Collabstr10% brand hiring fee (5% on Premium) plus 15% on the creator's payoutBoth sides
JoinBrands8-15% on creator payments, by subscription tierBrand
Influee10% on creator paymentsBrand
Insense7-20% on creator payments, by planBrand
Brands Meet CreatorsFree to join; creators set their own ratesNeither, as published

Rates ladder with track record rather than with reach. JoinBrands prices a Level 2 creator 50% above the base rate on a standard UGC video and a Level 3 creator 100% above it, with green-screen and B-roll formats reaching +150% at Level 3.

Our UGC rate calculator applies published rights and exclusivity multipliers to these base ranges, and the full pricing table carries every plan with its verification date.

Which platforms take creator applications

Acceptance rates get published in a few places, and they vary enormously:

  • Influee — 150,000+ creators across 30+ countries, a claimed top 3% of applicants.
  • Clip — 10,000+ creators at a 7% approval rate, brief-based, so creators apply to campaigns rather than waiting to be browsed.
  • soona UGC — roughly 35% of applicants approved.
  • Billo — 5,000+ vetted creators across the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
  • Insense — 100k+ creators across 35+ countries; applications typically reach a brand within 48 hours of a brief going live.
  • Collabstr — 1.2M+ profiles, listing-based rather than application-based, so creators publish a rate and wait to be booked.
  • Youdji — 11,300+ verified creators, 10+ countries, 45+ languages.

Read creator-side sentiment as carefully as brand-side sentiment. A Trustpilot reviewer on Billo with 593 completed videos describes disputes resolved in the brand's favor and unpaid compensation, and a Reddit creator who applied across three platforms named Billo as the low end on rates. JoinBrands creators on Trustpilot report accounts stuck in verification for months. Collabstr's separate 15% creator payout fee is a recurring Trustpilot complaint. Twirl's per-video pay is reported by creators as below typical UGC rates. Those are named third-party review sites reflecting sentiment, not CompareUGC scores — how we score explains the difference.

Why UGC creators do not answer brand outreach

Brands ask this constantly, and it usually gets answered as a deliverability or pitch-quality problem. Often it is neither. A large share of the creators a brand finds through a marketplace cannot lawfully answer, because the platform that introduced them wrote an anti-circumvention clause into the terms both sides accepted.

Collabstr's ToS §3 binds a brand and a creator introduced through the platform to use it as "their exclusive method to transact with the other" for eighteen months from their first order. Insense's creator terms go further and are not time-boxed: campaign content "will only be amplified or licensed exclusively through Insense during and after the term of these Terms of Service." A creator who takes your DM after meeting you on either platform is in breach.

Three other reasons account for most of the rest, and none of them is about your subject line:

  • The rate you opened with is below the floor. Marketplace listings show a creator's rate before the platform's cut. Collabstr creators lose 15% of the payout; JoinBrands adds 8–15% on the brand side. An offer benchmarked against the listed number reads as a discount request.
  • You asked for rights you did not price. Perpetual paid-ad usage roughly doubles a professional's rate. A brief that says "full usage rights" at an organic-use rate is a signal the creator has seen before.
  • They are not looking for work. Listing-based marketplaces like Collabstr and Youdji keep profiles live indefinitely, so a browsable roster is not a roster of available people. Application-based platforms — Clip at a 7% approval rate, Influee at a claimed top 3% — surface creators who opted into a live brief instead.

The practical fix is to stop treating discovery and contracting as separate steps. Hire inside the platform that introduced you, or find the creator through a channel that never bound you — direct outreach on social, where no anti-circumvention clause exists in the first place. How to find UGC creators works through what each route costs.

If you're the brand rather than the creator

You are buying an asset plus a license, so the two clauses to check before payment are the rights transfer and the revision count. Turnaround is the other planning number: Billo quotes 7-12 days after the creator receives the product, soona about 7, JoinBrands requires video upload within 10 days of receipt, Influee 7-10 days end to end, and Twirl within 14.

For a ranked shortlist, start with the best UGC creator platforms. Billo vs Collabstr is the cleanest head-to-head of the two dominant models, managed pipeline against open marketplace.

Bottom line

A UGC creator is a freelance video producer whose product is a licensed file. Followers are not the qualification; a phone, a home setup, and the discipline to shoot to a brief are. Brands pay roughly $89 to $350 per video across the marketplaces in our directory. Marketplace fees run from 7% to 20%, but who pays them matters: Insense, Influee, and JoinBrands bill the brand on top of the creator fee, Youdji takes its 20% out of creator earnings, and Collabstr charges both sides. Everything else — rights, revisions, exclusivity, turnaround — is decided inside the order, which is why the order is the document that matters.
